About
IPL photorejuvenation, or Intense Pulsed Light therapy, at Cerulean Medical Institute in Kelowna, can restore your skin to a natural, youthful appearance. Intense pulsed light laser treatment is ideal if you are suffering from dyschromia or discoloration, which includes red spots, brown spots, pigmentation skin conditions, or pigment changes. Patients who simply wish to revive their aging skin can benefit from intense pulsed light technology as well. The IPL device uses Intense Pulsed Light, to reduce the look of skin discoloration and resurface the skin for a beautiful, lasting result with even tone and texture. Intense pulsed light treatment uses light energy to target pigmented lesions, sun exposure, unwanted hair, and more. Intense pulsed light IPL treatments are clinical and aesthetic dermatology treatments that utilize safe and effective light pulses to address skin discoloration and unwanted hair follicles.
IPL Kelowna
IPL photorejuvenation is a process that improves the appearance of brown spots, redness, sun damage, and other common skin conditions by targeting and reducing the unnatural pigments and breaking them down over time. The process takes approximately 4 to 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart and leaves patients with healthy skin that looks smoother and younger. Our advanced skin care team at Cerulean Medical Institute are IPL Kelowna experts.
Who is a Candidate for IPL?
Patients who experience uneven skin tone or texture, including signs of aging, scarring, acne or rosacea, are often good candidates for IPL treatment. However, the treatment is not recommended for those with darker skin tones, as IPL can cause further darkening or hyperpigmentation of their skin. IPL is also not recommended for those with active acne or who are taking the drug Accutane, or for those who are prone to keloid scarring. Dr. Chetty at Cerulean Medical Institute will examine your skin to determine if IPL is the correct treatment to address your skin concerns.
IPL Photorejuvenation
There are several benefits of IPL Photorejuvenation. Patients can remove unwanted hyperpigmentation, including brown spots, sun damage, and visible blood vessels. The treatment creates a more youthful appearance, with improved and more consistent colour and texture. Signs of aging, such as fine lines and age spots, are removed and the skin is healthier overall. Finally, IPL stimulates natural collagen production within the skin, which leads to longer-lasting results over time with improved texture and elasticity.
IPL works on the theory of photothermolysis, which means the light device breaks down the targeted abnormal pigment and redness on the superficial layers of your skin.
Overall, IPL or Intense Pulsed Light treatment is a gentle procedure which feels like a quick warm snap when the light energy is delivered to the skin. Patients find that IPL is generally very tolerable. If necessary, a topical numbing agent can be applied prior to treatment.
After IPL treatment, the skin is overall , smoother, rejuvenated, and healthy. Patients will see reduced discoloration, acne scarring, sun damage, wrinkles, or rosacea.
For optimal results from IPL treatment, you will need a series of four to six treatments, spaced four weeks apart.
It is strongly recommended to wear a hat and sunscreen lotion when outdoors. Hot showers, hot baths and saunas must be avoided for 24 hours before your IPL treatment, as well as anything that generates heat in the skin, like exercise, cooking over a high heat, etc. You should avoid waxing, chemical peels, or collagen injections for at least two weeks prior to your IPL treatment.
If the skin is broken or a blister appears, keep the area lubricated to prevent crusting or scabbing of tissue, and contact the clinic. Cold packs, aloe vera or any other cooling preparation may be used to ease temporary discomfort. Prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for four weeks before treatment and for four weeks following treatment, and sun block should be applied. If further IPL treatment is needed, a commitment to stay out of the sun is necessary. If there is direct sun exposure, there are certain complications that may occur that should be discussed fully. Makeup can be applied as long as the skin is not broken. Makeup can also serve as an additional sun block if it contains an SPF.
