Reticular blue veins and thread veins are extremely common, mostly affecting the face, body and legs. Leg vein pathology affects up to 80 million adults in the United States alone. Similar occurrences have been reported in Western Europe. Women tend to develop leg vein pathology three to four times as often as men with reported estimates ranging from 29–41% and 6–15% respectively. You might feel mild discomfort similar to a warm elastic band snapping, which is made comfortable by our simultaneous cooling device. We recommend the use of a topical numbing cream such as Emla 5% one hour prior to the treatment.
Laser treatment of reticular blue and thread veins causes veins to reduce, fade and disappear after one or few sessions. On average it takes at least 3 or 4 sessions performed every 6 to 8 weeks to ensure full disappearance of the unwanted leg veins.
Laser treatments will remove fine and large facial and leg veins quickly and effectively, leaving your skin feeling smooth and blemish-free. This is a non-invasive treatment for veins 0.1–3 mm in size. Some veins disappear right away after your first sessions whilst other more stubborn veins need more sessions. We generally recommend treatments spaced at six to eight-week intervals.
Patients should avoid sun, exposure to tanning beds, sunless tanning lotions, and tanning creams at least three to seven days before, during and after treatment. A broad-spectrum sunblock (UVA/UVB) and SPF 30 or greater should be applied to the treatment area before any sun exposure. Prior to receiving laser treatment, patients with a history of herpes or cold sores should receive appropriate treatment. Just prior to laser treatment, remove all makeup, lotions, deodorants and oil from the area to be treated, with mild soap and water.
Makeup can be applied directly following a face treatment and you can return straight to your normal routine after each treatment session. Avoid hot baths or whirlpools for one week following treatment. If blistering or crusting occurs, do not shave for one to three days. Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, sunless tanning lotions, and tanning creams before, during, and after treatment. A broad-spectrum sunblock (UVA/UVB) and SPF 30 or greater should be applied to the treatment area before any sun exposure. Avoid exercises that can cause vasodilatation for one week post-treatment. Walking is encouraged. If makeup is applied, it must be applied and removed delicately. Excess rubbing can irritate the treated area and increase the chance of scarring. Discomfort, such as swelling or redness (lasting from a few hours to a couple of days), can be relieved with ice packs and, in the case of legs, elevating your legs and avoiding standing for long hours.
How long the varicose and thread vein removal treatment lasts varies from person to person. In most cases, the same veins will not reoccur, but new veins can appear in other areas of your body which might require treatment.
